Vacances au soleil

Depuis mon bureau bien chauffé, alors que mon collègue Christian travaille dehors, je veux vous parler cette fois-ci de la météo. Quel temps fait-il habituellement ici au lac ? Comment remédier à des journées moins belles ? Vous l'apprendrez tout dans cet article !

Quand j'étais petite, j'avais une cassette (oui, je suis de la génération qui a connu les cassettes) avec des histoires. Une de ces histoires était celle du soleil et du vent.

When I was a little girl I listened to stories on my tapes (yes, I am from the generation that knew tapes). One of these stories I liked to hear involves the sun and the wind.

Le vent se vante d'être le plus fort. "Je suis tellement fort", dit il, "que je peux obtenir tout ce que je veux". Le soleil reste calme et ne réagit pas trop à ces propos, mais le vent continue à se vanter jusqu'à proposer au soleil un défi. "Tu vois le monsieur dans la rue ? Je peux souffler si fort qu'il ne pourra pas garder son manteau". Le soleil accepte le défi. Le vent, sûr de lui, commence à souffler fort, au plus fort de ses capacités. Le manteau du monsieur s'ouvre un petit peu, mais vite il tire et se couvre au mieux. Au tour du soleil, il commence à briller, émettre la chaleur de ses rayons, illuminer le ciel avec sa luminosité. Le monsieur se redresse, commence doucement à ouvrir son manteau, sourit, et finit par l'enlever.
Il n'y a pas photo, nous avons tous une préférence pour le soleil. Et il paraît que ce soleil devient encore plus important pendant les vacances...

The wind is boasting to sun about its extreme power. "I'm so strong", he says "I can get done whatever I want". The sun does not react and the wind continues to boast until he suggests a battle he's sure he'll win. "Do you see that man down the street? I can blow so hard, it'll make his coat fly away". The sun agrees to join the battle. The wind, confident, starts blowing hard, as hard as he can. At first the man does seem not able to hold on to his coat, but he quickly fastens it better and bows against the blowing wind. When it's the sun's turn she starts to beam, she illuminates the sky and rises the outside temperature. The man straightens, starts opening his coat and finally takes it off.
One thing is certain, we all like the sun. And it's even more important she's there during our holidays...

Pour avoir connu étés et hivers au lac, je peux vous le résumer très brièvement :
Les hivers sont (très) froids, les étés sont chauds. Cependant, le camping se trouve à 800 m d'altitude, ce qui influence le ressenti. Dès que le soleil se couche, même l'été, il peut faire frais.

I've lived here through several summers and winters and I can make this very short:
Winters are (very) cold here and summers are hot. Not too hot though, the campsite is at 800m's height, as soon as the sun goes down the air can sometimes be fresh.

Alors comment remédier à des journées moins belle ?

• Venez préparé (jeux de société, un film à regarder sur la tablette, un livre, un magazine...)
• Faire des visites à l'abri (les grottes, les châteaux, certains parc à thèmes...)
• être optimiste : après la pluie, vient le soleil

Now how can you turn a grey day in a happy one?

• Come prepared (bring games, film, book, magazine...)
• Make visits inside (caves, castles, some of the theme parks...)
• Be optimistic: you must have heard of the silver lining
